New York’s Central Park is full of statues honoring various historical figures – and until now, every single one of them was a man. Some call it the “bronze ceiling”.
But this week, the city announced plans to build the Park’s first-ever monument honoring women.
The sculpture will include famous women’s rights activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, along with former slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth.
The monument is set to debut next August in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in America.
