National Drug Czar Jim Carroll says Indiana’s overdose deaths went down by 12% last year, more than double the improvement nationwide.
Carroll said on an Indiana visit the federal government’s trying to encourage steps similar to what Indiana’s doing: reduce the number of prescriptions and get more drug abusers into treatment.
Carroll says the administration is working with doctors and dentists to urge them to pay more attention to cut the number and duration of opioid prescriptions, without denying pain meds to patients who really need it.
